When Target shared last Spring they were ditching the long standing Merona line, they got my attention. I didn’t by tons of pieces, but it always provided some filler and trendier options at lower prices.  They noted they were replacing it with a ‘fresher’ line called ‘A New Day’.  I will admit, I was curious … what would the replacement bring?

Well they’ve released the new line – A New Day – and it has lots of similarities to the old Merona line.  In many ways this was simply re-branding but they’ve added a few noteworthy pieces.  These new pieces have details and materials not typically found at Target and I am hoping the trend continues in this direction.

You still need to watch the material quality and craftsmanship with some of the pieces but overall they’ve improved much of the line. I’ve tried four jackets and four shoes from the new collection and I’m sharing them all here!  Enjoy!

Cropped Shine Jacket

The first jacket I stumbled across had major statement potential.  This Cropped Shine Jacket brings it’s own sparkle with an allover shimmery gold.  It isn’t over the top though.  I would wear this to the office no problem.  The cropped style allows for flexibility in how you style it and sets it apart from an ordinary blazers.  I’m wearing denim but it would work with dress pants, skirts and dresses.

Cropped Tweed Jacket in Olive – I love the green color but it was the details that really got me. Sleeves trimmed with a contrasting band.  Covered snaps.  A slight sparkle to the wool blend.  A contrasting lining.  My blouse is the Ravello top from Boden.  My color combination is no longer available but they have several that work.  I would play up the contrast and go for navy or red.

Cropped Tweed

This Cropped Tweed Jacket was my second find!  I loved the bright combination of colors set on a black background.  Perfect for Monday’s or a rainy day.   It’s hard to see in my pictures but there is a little bit of fringe at the bottom (easier to see in the picture of the back).

Cropped Tweed Jacket  – I paired this with a navy silk blouse by Joie (40% off) and bright mustard pants from Ann Taylor.  My pants are no longer available but these are similar.  For the office I would wear this over a dress or with a pencil skirt and tights. For a more casual office environment go for dark denim flares (it will balance the silhouette). Keep the blouse underneath neutral and let the jacket shine.  (Although the model shows it with orange underneath and it looks great)!

Embellished

I stumbled upon this one next. This unique Embroidered Military Jacket borders on the athleisure edge but the details put it fully in the “I can wear this work to camp”.  Gold button accents along the front closure and on the two front pockets. Intricately embroidered flowers adorn the front of the jacket.  Red trim when you fold the cuffs (see the lower picture). All perfect.

Embroidered Military Jacket – I paired this with a striped blouse (also from Target) and black denim.  But for work I would opt for a black or red pencil skirt or my black leather midi (find a similar one here or here).

Plaid Boyfriend Blazer

This is the only longer jacket I tried and I loved it.  The looser “boyfriend” style was still professional enough for me to pull off at the office but was also super comfortable.  This one-button jacket has a throw back to the 80’s with some shoulder structure … but this helps with the silhouette.  The classic gray plaid pattern means while it will safely go to the office you can also pair it easily with denim.

A New Day Shoes

These little beauties are so similar to my Halogen shoes that are years old yet everyone still wants to know where to buy them.  These are missing the peep toe but that actually makes them even more wearable for Fall.  Perfect.

You know I love a good leopard shoe and these stunners don’t disappoint.  They are almost velvet like in material and fit TTS.  Look for a post on multiple ways to style these fun shoes coming soon!  I did a collaboration with a few other bloggers and we all styled this shoe!!

From Cat to Bird.  These peacock print shoes look fabulous.  I love all these colors for Fall but the combination of them makes this shoe a very versatile neutral!  They will pair as easily with jeans as they will with midi skirts and slacks.

A good flat D’Orsay is hard to find.  These remind me of my Kate Spade Bow D’Orsay shoes.  I loved the velvet one more in person but I would say these shoes are not for folks with Narrow feet.  They stayed on my feet fine but showed lots of extra room on the sides in the middle.  If your foot is on the wider side though they will be perfect!!
