I’ve lost count. Is that bad? The first order I placed at 3:42AM was for 23 items and then it increased non-linearly. I think I ended up in the 40 pieces range but some of them were duplicates (sizes, colors, etc.) I will get a total eventually. I’m posting most the items I purchased and tried on today. There are a ton more that needed to be shipped and they are currently scheduled to arrive Monday. A disclaimer that these were taken with pour lighting and even worse personal hygiene. It was a late night … thus the bun and no makeup!
Anyway, here goes my Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Dressing Room Diaries … take 1.
The Good
Always start with the good. There were some good contenders for top billing and lots of surprises (both good and bad). I think I have a few standout pieces that I kept coming back to as clear leaders … I’ll be working on the best of over the weekend. Until then …
This DVF Dress is Wow. Simply Wow. The mix of pink, red, black and camel is perfection. The dress leaves little to the imagination (I will be purchasing spandex immediately) but the material is thicker and very comfortable. I will wear this with a jacket or cardigan in the cooler months depending on the meeting schedule. I originally didn’t think this one would last the day but I think due to the system wide crash at Nordstrom there is much more stock they than were originally anticipating 16 hours into the sale. Fits TTS. I am wearing a size Small.
Veronica Beard Blazer and Blouse – Okay, so first holy wrinkled! Second, I know the Blazer isn’t in this picture. I had to order my size. Had I had the blazer though, you would not have noticed how wrinkled the shirt is. Because you would have been drooling over the blazer. This one is worth the investment. It’s amazing!! I am wearing a Size 6 shirt and the Blazer I ordered is also a Size 6. Look for a post where I create several looks with this shirt coming soon. #oneshirtthreelooks I will also get a real picture of the blazer rather than this imaginary one. You can see it in the gallery below though. #scrolldown
For a similar wow factor at a much more reasonable price point go for this J.Crew Jacket (only please don’t pair it with the blue striped shirt or do maybe … #hmm). I have on Size 4 in this picture and I need a 6. #UPSismyfriend
This one is great left open. Its a maybe tied. I love the blush color. It is super soft. It is a great layering piece. Fits TTS. I am wearing an XS but think I would prefer a Small. Side Note: Notice the two phones. If you look closely in the first picture that is me trying to place a Nordstrom order while the entire system was in crash mode. I must have pushed the Order button 100 times! #TenXPointsPlease
This coat looks way more expensive than the $109 it is. Perfect length for the midi trend and a gorgeous deep camel color. I sized down in this one and think I prefer it that way.
The pants you see me wearing in most of the pictures are either Navy or Burgundy Crop Flares from Halogen. I’m going to whisper this next part (or shout – still undecided). These give my beloved Oshima’s a run for their money and at only $49. I ordered all the colors. #couldntdecide Over the course of the afternoon, I had on a size 4, 6, 6P and 8 and I could have gotten away with wearing them all …. but the 6 fit me the best.
This fun little topper I think will be a great layering piece for the days you aren’t quite ready for a coat. I ultimately sized down in this one and this is a XXS/XS.
The only shoes I was able to try and they are a without hesitation a big YES. I think I am going to end up going down a half size. I am usually a 9 but I think I need these in an 8.5. #ordered Don’t worry there are more shoes coming!! They ALL had to be ordered. #crazy
The Bad (or The Not For Me)
It’s probably not fair to place this one in the bad category. It just wasn’t for me. The colors are lovely – which you cannot see from the poor lighting but it has pinks and greys in there. The shape was too boxy and their was too much white for my liking. I am wearing a medium.
Rebecca Taylor missed the mark with me this year. I loved this dress (LOVED) but you need to be shorter-waisted for the sizing to work and since I can’t change my body structure – I couldn’t make it work (very sad face). #tallpeopleproblems The picture is in a size 6 which fit great – other than my waist is about 1 inch below where the dress thinks it is. I tried an 8. The waist was perfect – the rest not so much.
This shirt was also a miss – I just couldn’t make it work under a jacket and so what was the point? I’m going to wear a jacket 75% of the time….although it did look kind of lovely under the Helene jacket. #seeabove
This cardigan had so much potential. The color combination and pattern are perfect. I sized down and it was still overall boxy and too long (I’m 5’8 and I’m saying that….)
I highlighted this dress in my catalog preview and noted the concern with the use of the words “flounce back”. Concern was an understatement. If you are looking for booty – I found your dress. Looking at the pictures after the fact it actually isn’t as horrible as it felt. It isn’t my style though.
The only thing that came to mind was Jerry Seinfeld and the “pirate shirt”. No. Just. No. I don’t even remember what size I tried I removed it so quickly.
The Maybe (Comments Welcome!!)
Yes, another pin stripe suit. I’m obsessed. This one is VERY different though. And I am VERY undecided. I can’t decide if the Step Hem looks edgy or sloppy. #help I am wearing a size 4 in the pants and a Small in the Jacket.
This tie sweater is a gorgeous blush color but again was transparent (there were lots of other color choices that were not but I wanted the blush). I am hoping to wear a button down shirt underneath. They were out of stock in my size (I have on an extra small) so we will see how the final look comes together. If you want a different color or want to wear a cami underneath then this is a good piece to pick up. The side tie is just plain fun!!
What I Tried On
There were a few other rejects in there but I’m tired and its late … remember that whole up at 3:00 AM thing. Over the weekend I will work on some round-ups of all the good stuff. Look forward to workwear staples (suits, pencil skirts and blouses). I am also going to create some looks to help you put together outfits. And I will have another try on session when all the shipped items arrive.
Until then … Happy Shopping!!
