I’ve been combing through the Nordstrom Half-Yearly Sale trying to determine if there is anything I need (read want). So far I have managed to place 84 items in my cart. As I scroll through these items – there are a few trends emerging. I find myself filling my cart with dangly, geometric shaped earrings, colorful watches and purses. This sale is apparently all about the accessories for me!
Aside from my current obsessions, I typically use this sale to stock up on work investment pieces like suits and silk blouses, dresses, sandals for summer and one or two date night pieces (read totally inappropriate for work). It’s nearly summer after all and I’m looking for warm-weather pieces to carry me through to the Anniversary sale and fall shopping! Here are a few of the pieces that caught my eye (or that I own and love and are now on sale)! #winning
These are fairly trendy right now – I’ve been seeing them pop up on ears everywhere and I love the look. The challenge is to narrow down the shape and color. I think I’m leaning toward circles and silver (although, to be honest, I currently have all three colors in my cart….) #needrestraint
Double Ring Drop Earrings – These come in Gold, Silver and Rose Gold. Who can choose?
Argento Vivo Openwork Drop Earrings – I have these in rose gold and I love them!
Circle Frontal Hoop Earrings – A non-dangle version of the ones above.
Chain Drop Earrings – For those that can’t decided … silver and gold all dangled into one. #yesthatsaword
Frontal Hoop Earrings – These are a subtle way to embrace the trend.
I love my Pour La Victorie statement purse – but it has been with me for many years (very happy years mind you). But for the past few months, I’ve been eyeing purses with different color options. My current statement purse is Black, Ivory and Camel which is great for fall and winter but I’m thinking something bright and fun for Spring and Summer. You can see I am trending towards Navy and Red but there were lots of other great statement purse options. See the full Handbag sale here.
Longchamp Penelope Tricolor Small Handbag – The tassels, the trim the colors – this purse is perfect except that it is on the high end of my budget. Hmm … #needaraise
Block T Leather Top Handle Satchel – I love the simple, classic lines and the color. This purse will age beautifully and will last for many seasons. #timeless #powerpop
These two Tory Burch purse are pure red, white and blue genius. The stripes … or the flowers-cherries-apples (whatever you want to call them) …. I can’t decide which option I like better. The stripe one has a matching wallet and the “flower” one has matching shoes. The only downside is the “flower” one is probably too small to be practical. #redwhiteandblue
I’m on the hunt for a good crossbody. I use these more like a wallet, shoved inside a larger purse or laptop bag. I’ve recently determined that my current one leads to massive amounts of inefficiency. The card slots are tight and annoying to access thus I end up shoving cards back in with receipts in the larger pocket. Inevitably, when I want to find a specific card, I can’t. I know it’s in there but rather than being safely tucked in a slot – it is swimming in the pocket hidden by a wad of receipts. #organizationalchallenges
With Cross Bodies it is all about the details. Contrasting trim, cool buckles, bold colors or perforated leather. These are the purses that caught my eye. I need something that can hold cash, cards and a phone but is small enough to tuck inside my laptop bag or a larger purse. #OnlyTwoCarryOnBags
Rebecca Minkoff Top Handle Leather Feed Bag – I’m loving the neutral color with the blue trim. The handle is a nice feature I could see using.
Rebecca Minkoff Small Love Denim – Denim seems trendy and wearable with nearly anything! I like the quilting detail as well.
Rebecca Minkoff Dog Clip Leather and Suede Saddle Bag – The pop of blue is what caught my eye. I can picture this standing out against many of my outfits.
Amarillo Faux Suede Cross Body – A bargain priced piece that comes in four colors. I like the security the flap and the zipper provides.
I wear a watch occasionally – mostly for conferences and days I can’t readily access my phone. The one I have is a few years old and I don’t really love it … these, however, THESE have caught my eye. There is nothing boring about any of these watches. I was drawn to the colors and the details. #armcandy
Tory Burch Whitney Leather Strap Watch – This one also came in a deep red but as you can see I’ve been all about Navy lately. #NavyistheNewBlack
Kate Spade New York Metro Peacock Leather Strap Watch – The peacocks are so fabulous and colorful. Besides the two shown here with a mint band and blue band their is also one with a white band equally adorable. #peacocksplease
Kate Spade New York Holland Mosaic Leather Strap Watch – This is the one I will probably get. I like the mix of colors and the neutrality of the band.
For work wear workhorses (say that three times fast) – I’m a Hugo person. They never need tailoring and they wear impeccably. I’ve been longing for a pinstripe suit and I like the idea of Navy over black – this beauty (Jacket and Sheath) is currently making its way to my house. Along with the matching pants. At a lower price point, this Classiques Entier pinstripe set could also fill the need – plus it has a skirt option and it is a WAY cool skirt option!
When I picked up my dress order today I looked at this skirt but didn’t try it on or buy it. It’s gorgeous. The texture and weight are beautiful. Driving home I was dreaming of all the outfits I could create using this skirt as a base. I will try and post my ideas later this week. Point is – I ordered it the minute I arrived home (and the coordinating blouse to go with). #AtLeastIDidntTurnTheCarAround #ThoughtAboutIt Update: This arrived and it is as beautiful as I remembered. It fits TTS and the fabric is insane. You will have this skirt for life. It isn’t really a piece for HOT summer days but it will transition beautifully. The wrap is faux so there is no fear of unexpected exposure.
Silk Blouses are my suit staple. They are the cleanest option for layering and generally travel easily. I wear them weekly and I am always looking for a good price on this quality staples. These will be with you for years so avoid trendy colors and patterns.
Equipment Reagan Silk Shell – I like the subtle floral pattern and the blend of seasonal colors. With the blush color and the pop of burgundy this shell will easily carry you through summer and into fall.
Vince Silk Blouse – Timeless and Classic. Also available in black. Wear this with the pinstripes or red skirt from above.
Equipment Slim Signature Silk Shirt – If someone were to ask me what my most unexpected favorite article of clothing is. I would have to choose my leopard print shirt. It is surprisingly neutral (but with personality) and I wear it ALL the time!! This is a great staple item – there is also a short sleeve version (without buttons) and one with a more subtle pattern.
My other go to staple for work – especially in the summer – is dresses. One piece and you are done. Toss a jacket over them if the AC is cranking or you need extra coverage during a meeting. #nosweat (literally)
Vince Camuto Fit and Flare Dress – I would pair this dress with a jacket without a lapel.
French Connection Cornell Sheath Dress – I like the unique layering of this dress. And you can never go wrong with a LBD (see my latest post here for more ways to style a LBD). Look for pictures of this dress on my Facebook page (horrible lighting and messy bedroom included).
Ted Baker Yakira Stripe Shift Dress – I’ve had my eye on this for awhile. I wasn’t willing to commit to this at full price but at 40% off – absolutely! #I❤TedBaker
Now is one of the best time to buy summer sandals. Still tons of time left in the season and 30 – 40% off. I will confess to owning all of these but the first two were a very recent addition (like yesterday recent – pictures of both are now on Instagram).
Hinge Drew Laser Cutout Sandal – I loved my Navy Cora’s so much that I knew I needed another pair of Hinge sandals in a blush or a grey. These are available in black, grey and blush. Update: I ordered these in blush and they are as fabulous as my Cora’s. I also sized down a half size and they fit perfect. Pictures are now on Facebook and Instagram.
Hinge Taryn Wedge Sandal – Why decide on blush or grey when you can have one of each? These also come in black. Update: So I ordered these and received them but I had to send my pair back. Nordstrom shipped me a size 8 for the right foot and a size 10 for the left foot (I ordered an 8.5). Luckily, I was able to order a new pair. The lesson learned with this odd exercise was that I needed the 8!! So – order down a half to full size. They keep flitting in and out of stock in various sizes so keep checking if you want them. Pictures are now on Facebook and Instagram.
Hinge Cora Block Heel Sandal – My beloved Cora’s … I have these in Navy and I LOVE them. Very comfortable. I am usually an 8.5 or 9 with 9 being the one I purchase most often. In Hinge I wear an 8.5. They come in beige, black and brown. #sorrytheNavyissoldout
Vince Camuto Lavette Perforated Peep Toe Bootie – A picture of these shoes is my second most liked picture on Instagram. They are that good. I have the tan pair shown here but they also come in Beige,Black ,Blue, and Grey.
Halogen Molly Flats – I have these in pink already but they are so comfortable and easy to style that I decided I needed them in black too. They are available in Black, Blue, Blush, Grey and Hot Pink.
Not pictured but the Stuart Weitzman sandals the Internet has fallen in love with are finally on sale. So tempting. Also on sale (and much more reasonably priced) are a good copycat for those … this Marc Fisher dupe (for less than $100). #StillNeedARaise
Fun Summer Pieces
Baublebar Seaglass Bib Necklace – Need a statement necklace to dress things up. This is a good one. The vibrant colors and irregular shapes make this a unique standout piece. It does need to be worn with a contrasting color to pop though. Pictures are now on Facebook and Instagram.
Cesca Colorblock Straw and Cotton Tote – This $14.49 tote is so practical for going … ANYWHERE but it was going fast! I would not hesitate on this one. Also comes in Pink. This is another item that keeps drifting in and out of stock in both of the colors …
Somedays Lovin Miles Away Sleeveless Top – This is as close as I get to a cold shoulder. This will require a strapless bra as the back is open with the exception of three small straps. I love a good halter neckline for hot summer nights. This looks breezy enough to appreciate the idea of HOT and the color is a COOL blue shade.
Vince Camuto Midi Dress – You know I love a good orange but it also comes in black for those who don’t. Update: OMG. This dress is fabulous – see horribly lit pictures on my Facebook Page and pretend my bedroom is clean in the background!!
Chelsea28 Crochet Tank – This is another piece I’ve had my eye on for awhile. Pair with a denim pencil skirt or skinny jeans for date night. Wear with a flare skirt for a wedding or graduation. Fits true to size and will allow for a normal bra underneath.
Perverse Rothesay Sunglasses – I’ve had my eye on glasses this shape ever since I scratched my avaiators. I’m hoping they love my face as much as I love them. #fingerscrossed
