Are you tired of hearing about the Nordstrom sale yet? Whether you are or aren’t – this may be the post for you! Why? I approached this year’s Nordstrom sale differently than years past (more on why in a minute). My goal was thoughtfulness and mindfulness with my purchases – not just buy all the stuff! This year, I created a list of pieces missing from my closet (white blouse, layering pieces and cashmere sweaters) BEFORE the catalog came out . Making a list of my needs allowed me to focus on the gaps in my closet. These gaps were clearly the focus as I browsed the sale but I still allowed myself to “shop” the sale and find unique pieces. #PerfectProcess
When the catalog came out I pursued it for pieces that caught my eye and trends I might like to try with a goal of purchasing no more than five pieces. You can see some of those pieces that initially caught my eye in this post. I have spent the last three days pre-shopping in the three different Nordstrom stores in my area. I looked and tried whatever. No rules. The first day I left with three items (white blouse, Ted skirt and burnt orange sweater). I also placed an online order (cashmere sweater, Tibi dress and leopard boots). The second morning I left empty handed but with a few pieces in mind to order (Ted cami, dot cami and leopard Tee). The third day I actually picked up the Ted cami I ordered. #WindowShopping
Why the Change
My change in approach to the sale was motivated mostly by my (mostly finished) major closet clean out. I have no desire to go back to my before. No one really wants a closet full of “stuff”. You want pieces you love and will wear all season long … for many seasons to come. My change in approach was also partially motivated by the purchase of two HVAC systems in the last two months (one for our house and one for my condo). These major system acquisitions took a large portion of my sale budget (read all of it) and I had no desire to overspend. #RealLife
What I Purchased
I didn’t set a dollar amount but I did set a number limit. 5 pieces (not counting accessories and shoes, of course). Every year I identify my five favorites after the sale … this year my goal was to do it during. I’m currently over five but I haven’t decided if the gap pieces on my list count towards my number. #Loopholes
A few of these pieces I am on the fence about and a few of them had to be ordered and have not arrived so fit or sizing issues could make decisions for me. Five is still a lofty goal but I’m challenging myself to make it real. #CheckBackNextWeek

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Coverage
This year I want my content surrounding the sale to be more about style than stuff. As I perused the catalog, the stores and finally my closet I realized I have a massive sale collection from a long history of Anniversary sale purchases. To acknowledge my collection, I have created these Steal My Style Looks to showcase some of my favorite purchases from the sale over the years. These are the pieces of love and wear endlessly … these are the pieces you should be looking for in the sale. The pictures are all older, but each one showcases one (or more) Anniversary Sale finds. Because the brands return every year and classics never go out of style … many of my favorites can be found in this year’s sale. (And I found them for you.)
Steal My Style
Here are a few of the looks I’ve put together over the past few years with some of my favorite sale finds. You will also find links to recreate the looks with pieces from this year’s sale. Bonus – Many of the items are exactly the same as previous years and there is a reason they come back year after year! #Winners
Without further ado … steal my style. #Please
Everyone needs a good blue blazer! Pair with a gorgeous silk blouse and you are ready for the office. This DVF blouse has been one of my all time favorite sale purchases and you can never go wrong with a pop of color! Both of these items were included in my Winter Capsule Wardrobe so you can get tons of styling ideas. I also gave you splurge or save options for the look! #OrBoth
L’Agence Blazer | Theory Blouse | Simone Pants | J.Crew Blazer | Something Navy Blouse | Vince Camuto Pants
This DVF dress is a one and done beauty – I did add a cardigan for cold offices and Fall. (Coffee optional but should absolutely be sustainable)! #SorryStarbucks

Another Moto Monday look (except I live in this on the weekends). I purchased this AllSaints sweater to add to my collection. Don’t be surprised if you see me in it every weekend come Winter. White booties are on there way out so I added three options to replace them. They were all so good and I couldn’t decide which was my favorite. #ThanksMarc
Moto Jacket | AllSaints Cashmere sweater | Marc Fisher Bootie | Scarf | Commando Leggings
*I thought the black jacket was going to be included in the sale but it is a dusty pink. #StillGood
Make your suit jackets work harder and pair them with an animal print midi skirt.
You know I love a good separates as dress combo – even more when you pull it all together with Tiger (and leopard).
Blazer | Belt | Sweater | Bootie | Skirt

More suit love – this time for Theory and the perfect grey and navy pairing. I actually forgot to include a navy top … mine is MM.LaFleur but this one works.

If you’ve gone Mad for Plaid then I guarantee you will find one in here for you!! I paired mine with a classic turtleneck and black denim but wear these with anything! #NoReally I’ve also paired my blazer with white … as seen here and the DVF silk blouse from above as seen here. #CRAZYgood

Because red booties should get more than one look and I love a good striped denim! #DoubleTake
Floral Blouse | Tote | Red Bootie | Denim
My iconic social media profile now in a Ted Baker pump. SWOON!!
My Tibi “separates as dress” is now an actual dress. This one came home. And who can forget my love for TUMI or Ted. #TibiTumiTed

More Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Coverage
Don’t worry – I will still create my Best Of Lists (see Work Staples Here) but since I really want my sale content to be about style and showcasing how you can create looks again and again with the pieces you fall in love with (my law of three on steroids) you can absolutely expect those lists to include styling ideas!! Look for the lists starting next week (in time for the start of the public sale) but you can always find all things Nordstrom on this page.
