It’s Shoesday and I’m starting the first Shoesday of the year with a discussion on the color trends for 2018.  Twice a year Pantone releases their color trend predictions and this year they went a little crazy!  They normally include ten trending colors but this season they added two more trending colors as well as including four classics colors for a total of 16!  The color trends picks are full of color while the classics are neutral bases to wear with everything!  It’s a good thing I don’t fear color because in their words:

“Color continues to be a powerhouse and a key influencer of fashion trends for spring 2018.”  #YESS

There is a rainbow of hues … so much so that everyone should be able to find a color trend to embrace!  Yellows and reds will persist accompanied by newcomer shades of purple.  The Color of the Year is a deep rich purple appropriately named – Ultraviolet.  Seem to early for these bold colors?  The trends include transition colors meant to be warn in tandem.  Now is the time to find a few bright-colored pieces and begin incorporating them into your wardrobe.

I suggest you start with shoes!

Classic Color Trends for 2018

As you’ve seen in my Capsule Wardrobe posts, classic, neutral colors are the mainstay of any workhorse wardrobe.   Their inclusion in the color trends is not abnormal but their segregation is.

“We want to reflect consumers’ increased desire for color, and felt that if we included these core basics into our top color call outs, we would be forced to limit the number of colors we thought deserved special attention, at the same time, the core classic shades play a critical role in any wardrobe, and we also want to highlight the nuance of these classic colors for the spring 2018 season.”
