It’s going to be a big week on My 9 to 5 Shoes! Everyday this week I am doing a Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Roundup for the best of the best with each day focused on a different category. Today’s focus is Suits. I picked my top picks – tried as many of them on as I could and here are my thoughts.
While today’s focus is Suits, stop back every day this week to see the best in Skirts, Dresses, Pants and Shoes (just in time for the start of Public Days on July 21st). Smattered in each of those categories you will also find silk shirts, jackets and a few other fun pieces.
Worried you missed all the good stuff?!? Not a chance. I’ll let you in on a little secret … they restock the sale for the start of public days. (In fact, they restock almost daily throughout the sale). If your size isn’t there today, check again tomorrow and definitely on Friday when the public sale starts. #StalkNordstrom
Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Suit Roundup
I tried on everything I could find in the store so you can see the item on me as well as the Nordstrom model. I also tried to get a couple different angles in the dressing room. #DressingRoomSelfies
I’ve listed the suits in descending price staring with my beloved Hugo. I’m highlighting two Hugo Boss Suits here (although there are a few more in the sale) because this is the time of year to buy an investment suit. You can save more than $200 on the jacket alone. I cannot recommend these suits enough and I typically buy one every other year. I have one suit that is going on 6 years and it still looks like the day I purchased it. My recommendation if you wear suits frequently is to purchase as many pieces as you can (Jacket, Pants, Skirt and a Dress) for each color. This increases your options with less investment and is great if you travel. #onejacketmanylooks
The first suit is a classic, timeless suit that will be with you for years. It is a beautiful grey color that will work almost all year. This was the only suit option that had all four pieces (Jacket, Pants, Skirt and a Dress).
The second is a gorgeous burgundy color. There were none left in the store for me to try (that should tell you something) but I purchased a very similar suit a few years ago and this is hands-down my most complimented suit. The color is so versatile and unique. I only have one piece for mine (the dress) but if you can afford more I would absolutely get the skirt too!
I am wearing the jacket in a 6 (I am typically a 4) and I am wearing the skirt in a 4. I find Hugo fits very TTS and I typically require no alterations.
This is the second most common suit brand in my closet. These are quality suits with my oldest one going on +5 years.
I love this year’s sale suit because of the uniqueness. Both pieces can easily be worn as separates without looking like you are wearing half a suit. This was my favorite suit I tried in the store (as evidenced by the number of photos – scroll down to see options to wear just the pants).
This was my favorite look of all the suit combinations. I have on a Size 4 in both the jacket and the pants. That is not what I normally wear in Theory, I normally have to size up but these appeared to fit TTS. The shirt fit TTS but has the potential for slipping and so I would recommend either a cami or confidence. #IChooseCami
I have on a Size 4 in both the jacket and the pants. That is not what I normally wear in Theory, I normally have to size up but these appeared to fit TTS. This top is so gorgeous in person and very versatile. This one came home.
Classiques is a good mid-level brand for quality suits. I do not own any of their suits but I do own several of the their separates and I am a big fan.
These wide legs pants in a classic navy will be a great suit to last for years!
The jacket is a size 4 and fit great. The pants are a size 6 and were too big – I actually had to pin the back for the pictures. I need a size 4. The shirt is a size 4 and I would have liked to have tried a size 6. It is very short so you need high-waisted pants or skirt to accompany it. The neckline has a solid button so you do not need to worry about wardrobe malfunctions. #janetjacksonanyone
Halogen is a good entry level suit. I owned several when I first started wearing suits and they do the job. If you only wear a suit every once in awhile then this is a good suit choice for you. If you wear suits weekly though, then I cannot recommend this one for durability. It won’t stand up to daily use or frequent dry cleaner wear and tear.
I am wearing the jacket in a 4 but I think I would have preferred the 6. The pants I have on a 6P (I am not Petite), thus the reason I don’t have on any shoes.
I highlighted this Halogen suit in my Day 1 Round up.
Yes, another pin stripe suit. I’m obsessed. This one is VERY different though. And I am VERY undecided. I can’t decide if the Step Hem looks edgy or sloppy. #help
I am wearing a size 4 in the pants and a Small in the Jacket.
Pieces as Separates
I mentioned that both the Theory Jacket and Pants can easily stand on their own. Here are a few examples with the pants.
Pieces to Transition
In getting more from your wardrobe, both of these tops could easily be worn now when paired with white pants or other light colors. (They both came home).
Happy Shopping and come back tomorrow for the Skirt Roundup and Review!
