Too many layers? As we welcome winter, I don’t think it is possible to have too many layers. I am going to have to retire somewhere really warm because each year my tolerance for cold decreases exponentially. My husband says I have a two degree temperature range from 80 – 82 degrees, probably a slight exaggeration (or maybe not).
My layered outfit today was inspired by the latest Nordstrom catalog … where I find so much inspiration … and spend way too much money. I wanted to recreate the look to be slightly more office appropriate though. If you look closely, the Nordstrom version actually has 2 jackets underneath the overcoat – I didn’t go quite that crazy with the layers. Plus, I couldn’t figure out how to pull off the denim jacket at work – or the more casual color scheme.
In my version, the overcoat is black … my go to winter weather staple for work. While the inspiring camel color is gorgeous, black is way more practical by comparison – (I do have a five year old BOY). Since my outer layer was so much darker, I wanted to have a brighter middle layer that wouldn’t get lost. I also needed layering pieces that would be office appropriate (I already mentioned the denim jacket challenge). The other denim – the jeans – also had to go. Hello trendy-black-cropped-flare pants (I know, its a love-hate with this trend). Finally, I switched out the heels for ankle boots (did I mention it was cold outside)!?
My Layered Look
It is all fine and dandy to look good walking down the street but the outermost layer is really only worn in the car and for about 5 minutes into the building (oh, and the Starbucks stop). Once at the office, with the coat removed, I still wanted to look layered.
Overall, I was happy with the recreation. I haven’t worn this blue button-up in awhile so it was nice to mix it up.
