I have been obsessed with the revival of the mini.  Hello, I AM a girl who grew up in the 80’s and the era of Madonna.  But when I purchased this Ted Baker mini on a recent trip to Las Vegas, I was hesitant.  Very hesitant.  Can I really make a mini office appropriate?  I tend not to purchase items I can’t also wear to work.  Despite the potential office challenges, the mini was trendy again and I wanted one.

I made the plunge, purchased this one and I am in love.  My conversion to believer was nearly instantaneous.  I wore it for the final day of a conference in NYC (I figured of all places I could get away with anything it would be NYC).  Compliments poured in.  This was all it took to overcome my office aversion – well that and a little balance.

Let me explain …

I feel like the key to being able to pull off a mini in the office is to balance the shorter skirt with coverage elsewhere.  Since I was showing a fair amount (okay, ALOT) of leg I felt the need to counter all that skin by covering up elsewhere.  I used a coordinating turtleneck for coverage above – AKA as nix the cleavage display (not that this is a problem for a 34AA).  I have also worn this skirt with a simple white button down (no pockets or other distractors) because a simple white button down ALWAYS looks professional.  You could also use tights or over-the-knee (OTK) boots to balance the exposure.

Here is what I wore today … what do you think – would you wear this to the office?

The coordinating sweater is now in route to my house to join the beloved skirt. Stay tuned for an updated post!
